What You Will Learn

Happy Place: Explore the world of colour and composition.

We all have places that are special to us, physical locations in the world that make us happy or resonate with us for any number of reasons. For many of us though, visiting them in person may be out of reach for now, so this seems like the perfect time to explore them in another way.

This course will cover a range of techniques Morgan uses to achieve the crisp linear quality and distinctive character of his glass work. Through technical demonstrations and discussion, we will explore facets of the process including developing ideas, cutting and assembling glass compositions, and preparation of work for firing.

You can see more of Morgan's work on his own website: morganvanmadison.com

Class Description

Morgan will demonstrate two different projects to allow you to experiment with techniques and encourage you to consider how to apply them to your own work going forward. Finishing work in the cold shop, discussing firing schedules, and strategies for preparing work for display will round out the content.

Together we will work to unleash your creative potential, exercise your artistic voice and grow your kiln forming skillset. The goal is to give you the tools to pursue your own unique visions efficiently, and confidently and to have fun while doing so.

Workshop Outcomes:

  • Informative samples of strip cut glass and powder compositions.
  • A well-considered and carefully crafted 25 x 20 cm Finished Glass piece
  • A thorough understanding of Madison’s process and the technique to feel confident using it on your own going forward

How it Works:

  • The course is made up of three live and interactive online sessions using the Zoom platform.
  • You will find the zoom link via the week's chapters in the navigation panel.
  • Morgan will give a step-by-step tutorial with demonstrations, and you will have ample opportunity to ask him questions during the live class
  • Each week he will demonstrate a technique for you to try between sessions
  • A member of the Glass School team will also be in the Zoom class to assist you and Morgan
  • Mix with Morgan and other students on our dedicated community page, open for the duration of the course (which can be accessed via your dashboard) Then join our exclusive Glass School UK Online Glass Community Facebook group to continue to mix with those who have attended any of our online masterclasses
  • A materials list is provided in the course navigation panel, so you can purchase what you need to create your pieces during the course. You don’t need absolutely everything on this list to be successful, Morgan will discuss different ways to reach our technical goals

We believe that this is the best way to get the very most from the course, but if this doesn’t suit you that’s fine: - If you can’t get to your studio, you can still learn the techniques and benefit from Morgan's extensive knowledge without making the pieces during the course itself.

This is a live online masterclass, but in case a student experiences issues with internet connection during the live class, a recording of each live session will be available to view until two weeks after the final session. This cannot be downloaded or shared and is only available for this limited time. By participating you agree to be recorded for this purpose.

These recordings will be available in the course navigations panel.
