Course - The Copper Foiling Technique with Catherine Dunstan

On this Learn at Your Own Pace Course, you will learn the modern copper foiling technique for stained glass. Develop your core skills through a series of projects, from 2D suncatchers, through to larger panels and a 3D candle lamp.

The copper foiling process was developed in the 1890s by Louis Comfort Tiffany, who sought a more versatile method of stained glass making for lamps and decorative panels. By applying a copper foil tape to your glass pieces and soldering them together, greater levels of intricacy can be achieved than with the traditional leaded process.

Throughout the course, Catherine will demonstrate key tips for producing design templates, the best ways to cut your glass for simplicity and economy, the different types of copper foil you can use, and the various solder options. You will learn how to finish your pieces by attaching hooks and choosing a chain to display your piece.

Templates will be provided for those who would prefer to use them.
