Áine Ryan - Glass, the Body and Rural Feminist Practice - Glass Talk - 7th May 2026 5:30PM
This is a live online talk, presented over Zoom.
Price inclusive of tax.
For countries exempt from paying UK and EU taxes, the correct price will be calculated at checkout upon entering a valid billing address.
Áine Ryan will discuss her artistic practice, which explores feminine identity within rural and patriarchal contexts, with a particular focus on glass as a material. The talk will explore how glass functions both materially and conceptually within her practice: its fragility, resistance, and capacity to hold material and symbolic dualities.
She will discuss her use of casting processes alongside textiles, found objects, and farm materials, and how these materials carry memory, care, and labour. Drawing on ecofeminist thought and the Greek myth of Io, she will explore parallels between the objectification of women and nature, as well as the often-overlooked role of women within farming families in rural Ireland. This talk will be of interest to artists and audiences engaged with glass, sculpture, feminist practice, and material-led approaches to making.
